Curfew for Minors: Advantageous or Disadvantageous?

A CURFEW IS A LAW enacted by a local or state government that restricts certain people from being in public places at specified times of the day.
 
Many cities and towns have a curfew law in place to prevent teenagers from being out at certain times, typically spanning the late hours of the night or school hours during the day. Any teenager caught out after curfew can face a fine or even jail time, depending upon the specific laws of the town.
 
Possible reasons to believe that curfew is advantageous:
 
·         Youth crime is a major and growing problem, often involving both drugs and violence. Imposing youth curfews can help to solve these problems, as they keep young people off the street, and therefore out of trouble, and prevent them from congregating in the hours of darkness.
 
·         The use of curfews on minors can help to protect vulnerable children for not all parents are responsible and inevitably their children suffer, both from crime and in accidents, and are likely to fall into bad habits. Society should ensure that such neglected children are returned home safely and that their parents are made to face up to their errands.
 
·         There is no good reason for children to be out unaccompanied late at night, so a curfew is not really a restriction upon their liberty. They would be better off at home doing schoolwork and interacting with the rest of their families.
 
·         Child curfews are a form of zero tolerance policing, showing that a community will not allow an atmosphere of lawlessness to develop. Child curfews can help to change a negative youth culture in which challenging the law is seen as desirable and gang membership an aspiration.
 
Possible reasons to believe that curfew is disadvantageous:
 
·         What if they have to stay out late for a school related activity?
 
·         What if they have part-time jobs, for example being jeepney conductors? Many jobs requires staying until night to earn money for their living.
 
·         It is unethical to criminalize their simple presence in a public space.
 
·         Once charged even for flimsy reasons, they will have criminal record which might bring harms to their opportunities in employment and so increases the social deprivation and desperation which breed crime.

It is disadvantageous to imply those curfew hours for the minors because, like what had been said above, all of us has our own time management in a particular place, so why do they try to be a hindrance on our plans? Then for me, it's on the parents responsibility to discipline and to tighten their belts on their children. Another, what would be the purpose of the security units that supervise at nights? They must not arrest innocents rather, guide them well and also be a parents outside the house.

For me, I think it is advantageous. Simply because teens are off the streets and in homes where they can be safe and out of trouble. I believe that this helps keep kids out of trouble, because they can be inside homes doing something productive. Being outside just wastes their time, but they don't realize this, because they think it's okay.

Di ako pabor sa pagpapatupad ng curfew na yan kasi para tinanggalan mo rin ng kalaayan ang mga kabataan. Hindi sagot ang curfew para mawala ang kaguluhan,bagkus mas marerebelde pa ang mga kabataan. At mas madalas na mangyari yung mga krimem sa araw, at hindi naman lahat ng krimen ay kabataan ang pasimuno. Lalabagin lang din naman yan ng kabataan eh. Mas pagtunan na lang natin ng pansin kung paano mas mapapatatag ang seguridad sa lahat ng oras.

Pabor ako sa curfew for minors dahil para din ito sa kaligtasan ng mga bata. Wala namang reason para mag stay ang mga bata sa kalye pagkatapos ng klase nila sa school. Nakakatulong din ito para maging disiplinado at maging responsable ang mga kabataan.

I believe that it is advantageous to impose a curfew for minors. The crime rates done by minors are keep on rising and having a curfew imposed can help to reduce it. It will be a way to help the youths to avoid bad activities like drinking alcohol, exposure to drug abuse and being involve in crimes at night time. This will also be of help to discipline minors and keep them inside their house where they can interact more with their family and not only their peers.

The objective of Curfew Law to minimize street violence can be an aid to lessen street violence; but as far as I'm concerned i don't think it's the appropriate way to do so because for me its better if they would just designate an officer to be in charge of peace and order than to arrest a youngster just because of a simple presence in the street.And let's say ,a student was caught late but the truth is he/she just finish a school activity and other thing is that what if there's an emergency? For me, this law doesn't acknowledge all the factors or situations that a certain youth probably encountered before going home late.

For me curfew for minors creates different advantages to reduce crime rate by keeping kids off the street at night. It teaches the minors to be disciplined, responsible and considerate to their surroundings. It will also help the students to study instead of having fun with their friends. And they will be more conscious to do their home works and they will grow from different knowledge that he/she may encountered.

Implementing Curfew Law is designed to protect children and teens in order for them not to engage in different crimes that usually occur late at night. Curfew is advantageous not only with teenagers rather it would also allow the city to have quiet time, in which the residents being able to sleep without any disruptive behavior. Teenagers will also be responsible in managing their time as they will focus in their study and not on bad habits. In short, curfew helps to maintain peace and order situation since we never know when or where the danger comes.

I disagree with you. For me as a parent or guardian, disadvantages for implementing curfew will be that children/teenagers will think that we don't trust them. Which eventually may lead or promote them to rebellion and disobedience towards us.

Having a curfew for minors is generally safer for several reasons. With everything dangerous that goes on during the later hours of the night, parents will feel at ease knowing that their children is going to be home at a certain hour. This will also help the minors to be responsible enough to be home before it gets too late.

i have to disagree with you Justine. hindi naman kasi lahat ng kabataang nasa labas ng bahay sa gabi ay masama na ... yung iba kasi kailangan nilang magtrabaho just to provide their everyday needs. paano nalang po yung mga working students or yung mga kabataang minor de edad na kailangang magtrabaho ng gabi. tsaka what if magkaroon sila ng record nang wala naman silang ginagawang masama .. that'll be a problem. kaya disadvantage sa panahon ngayon ang pagkakaroon ng curfew hours for minors.

Sorry pero hindi ako sumasang-ayon sa curfew dahil may mga minor de edad na estudyante na nag-aaral sa umaga at nagtatrabaho sa gabi. Mayroon din ibang pagkakataon na may mga group projects, o hindi kaya school activities na umaabot na ng gabi. Ang lahat ng bagay ay may advantage at disadvantage kaya masasabi ko na ang curfew ay hindi advantageous sa lahat ng minor de edad lalo na para sa mga estudyanteng nag-aaral at nagtatrabaho.

I agree for it is Advantageous. Applying this kind of restriction for minors is absolute necessary. In this case, there will be a satisfaction of peace in a particular community and minors will enhance their attitude to become well-discipline and building such a great virtue that serves and helps in preparing them to become well-rounded citizen of our country. Minors also learn the importance of using time effectively and wise. Crimes and other accidents that may happen to them will be diminished.

Overall: I guess curfew can make a significant difference depende sa kung paano ito paiiralin at ipapatupad.

I agree that a curfew for minors is advantage, because this will set them up to feel safe and will give them a sense of boundaries in their life. When they must be home by a certain hour, teenager must develop their ability to plan, prioritize and act proactively within prescribed time boundaries.

i beg to disagree. that curfew is good only for those who are not working at night. what will happen if that law might approve, are you saying that those who are working at night may have the possibility to stop their work? i am on the side that you or they might be in danger but let us not put only to on possibility and reason , let us be considerate to others.
