JOSÉ Protasio RIZAL Mercado y Alonso Realonda (June 19, 1861 – December 30, 1896)
 
He was a Filipino nationalist and reformist and the most prominent advocate for reform in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era. i would say that Bonifacio. No national hero from any other country in the world sprung without putting up a fight. No real independence won without battle fought. Rizal was made hero by the Americans for some reasons; to please the Filipinos that they respect an honored Filipino kind; to impress into the minds of the filipinos that insurrection and revolution is not a virtue; that they are better off believing the benevolent assimilation than aidng the insurgents; prevent rebelious ideas to grow in the minds of the youth.

It is already been debated long time ago since you were not yet around, or me in that order. Bonifacio is considered by the Americans to be a war freak compared to Dr. Jose Rizal in their own prospective that is why Bonifacio's name was stricken out of the list of potential national hero of the Philippines during the American period in the Philippines. Even the famous revolutionary Emilio Aguinaldo was not included in the list, you probably wonder why. Well no need since we already know the reason why it is so.

For me the national hero of the Philippines is Dr. Jose P. Rizal because he is the one who awakened the nationalism of the Filipino in a not violent way. He only uses his knowledge and inspiration to protect us even though it will cause him to death. On that part I can call him a hero because he sacrifices his quiet life to gathered knowledge around the world that would help to reform our country. And through his novel and essay and articles he expresses himself that’s why many Filipino citizens influence to fight and awakens every heart to become brave.

For me the one who should be the National hero is Jose Protasio RIZAL Mercado y Alonso Realonda he fought for the freedom of every Filipino by making two novels that he dedicated for those Spaniards who abuse the rights of everyone here in our Philippines country and for the three priests namely; GOMBURZA ( Gomez, Burgos, and Zamora ) who died for the country. In his novels they influence a lot of Filipino. He travelled around the world for us for our FREEDOM and died for us and our MOTHERLAND.

This is just a response to mr. jayvee. I agree with you. It should be Jose Rizal the national hero. Why? Because aside from his poems, novels, he has also a good character, he set an example how we can survive even in our time when you read his novels, poems, etc. you would learn how Rizal make fellow Filipinos to stand up against the Spaniards and his writings still exists even this generation.

Bonifacio should have been the national hero because he wanted for an ultimate freedom for the Philippines and be separated from the authorities of Spain and that is through a revolution. Andres Bonifacio's goal was total separation from the Spaniards. He believed that we should have total independence and our own government. A government run by Filipinos.

Bonifacio or Rizal. Some people side on Bonifacio, some people side on Rizal. In my opinion, Bonifacio should be the National Hero. Why? Both died for their country, that's true. Do not think it's because Rizal fought with a pen and Bonifacio fought with a sword. No, it is not that. For me, to be a National Hero, yes, you have to look at what they did, but more importantly, you have to look at their goal. Rizal only wanted reform.

Rizal is considered as our national hero because he fights for our country without using any violence but only through his writings, using only his pen and brain that our country was able to surpass the colonialism of Spain.. Unlike Andres Bonifacio and other heroes that used deadly weapons to achieve our victory. Rizal is chosen to be our national hero because of his abilities and knowledge. Furthermore, he is the only hero that is known all over the world because of his uncountable monuments.

For some, a hero is someone who is admired because of his noble works and for others because of his great courage. If you are to choose between Jose P. Rizal, Andres Bonifacio and Emilio Aguinaldo you would think that each of them has these qualities. But there should only be one and for me it really should be Jose P. Rizal. Rizal used his wit to show us that we shouldn’t be treated by Spaniards like idiots and have something that they don’t have. Through his writings, Filipinos were awakened and other revolutionary matters initiated. So I firmly believe that it should be Rizal who should be claimed as our National Hero because of his courage and the reason why we have our so-called freedom right now.
